Abstract

188,737. Haddan, R., (Endless Belt Corporation). Aug. 10, 1921. Cigarette-making machines.- In tensioning- means for belts subject to angular or curved deformation, such as the belts used in continuousrod cigarette-making machines in which the belt traverses a forming-shoe, the belt passes over two idlers, one being mounted on a sector-plate, which is pivoted at its centre on the spindle of the second idler and is subjected to a constant tangential force. The fabric belt 1 passes over a driving-wheel 2, fixed idler 3, tensioning-idlers 15. 12, and a roller 5, and through a forming-shoe at 9, where the paper 7 and tobacco 8 are formed into a continuous rod 10. The idler 15 is mounted on a sector 17 pivoted on the spindle 13 of the idler 12 and having teeth 23 to mesh with a pinion 24 journaled in a plate 18, which also is carried by the spindle 13 and carries a guide stud 20 engaging an arcuate slot 22 in the sector. The pinion 24 is fast with a sheave 25, about which is wound a cord or wire 30 supporting a replaceable or adjustable tensioning-weight.31.
