182,039. Lascelles, L. Sept. 20, 1921. Paving - blocks; glass blocks.-Blocks for paving roads &c. of the type in which opposite side surfaces are parallel and inclined to the top and bottom surfaces are formed with one or more grooves in one or more of the side surfaces for the reception of locking-keys or for drainage and ventilation purposes. The blocks, of stone, reinforced concrete, wood, compressed fibre, glass, &c. have the top and bottom surfaces of square rectangular or polygonal shape, with an even number of sides, and have grooves 7 in the side surfaces. The grooves may be V-shaped, semicircular, trough, or U-shaped, and are parallel to the inclined edges. The locking-keys of iron, wood, &c. are of the same cross-section as the holes formed by the grooves in adjacent blocks, and they mav project above the surface of the block, and the lower ends may be pointed for driving into the bed of the road or for fitting into a frame or netting. The ends 12, Fig. 8, of the keys 8 may be turned over so as to facilitate the removal of the blocks. Where the blocks are arranged to break joint, the grooves in one row of blocks are formed by removing the corners of the blocks opposite the grooves in the blocks of an adjacent row. The holes may be filled with cement or tar.
