Drying materials in long lengths.-In the drying of photographic papers after coating with a sensitizing-medium, such as ferro-prussiate emulsion by passage through the customary horizontal heating-chambers, the operation is facilitated without increase of floor space by providing a vertical extension to the chamber up one or both ends; gas jets &c. are distributed throughout the whole heating-space so formed. As shown, thepaper comes from a roll c and after coating by a device j passes over a drum h into an horizontal trunk a rectangular in cross-section and supported by a pair of longitudinal irons d beneath which gas jets e are arranged in a heating-duct; and in its passage to the drum h it is led close to a vertical extension i of the heating-duct.
