Abstract
171,577. Phillips, J. E. Oct. 5, 1920. Guards, controlling.-A guard for presses com. prises a lazy-tongs frame or frames adapted to be positively extended on the down-stroke of the press plunger by the engagement of a rod carried thereby with a lever linked to a sliding-member operating the guard, which is collapsed by a spring as the plunger rises. In the form shown in Fig. 1, as the press plunger descends, an incline 22 on a bar 11, which is carried by an angularly-adjustable bracket 23 on a plate 24 secured to the plunger, contacts with a roller 16 on a lever 15, which is pivoted in a frame 12 serving as a guide for the bar 11. In a modification, the pillar 5 is disposed at the side of the press, and a single-frame guard is provided. According to the Provisional Specification, the distance pins of the frame 12 carry rollers.
