Abstract
165,767. New Jersey Zinc Co., (Assignees of Coursen, W. L.). June 28, 1920, [Convention date]. Zinc oxide.-In the production of zinc oxide by volatilizing zinc in a retort and burning the vapour, a considerable bodv of molten zinc is retained in the retort, and solid zinc is added from time to time in comparatively small quantities, the operation being practically continuous. Each retort 2 has an outlet 4 at one end for the vapour and an inlet 6 for producer gas at the other. The pipe 6 is fixed in luting 5 which is broken away when necessary for cleaning. On the pipe 6 is a door 7 for admitting the fresh zinc. The zinc may be added in the form of rods broken from a casting formed in a mould having finger-shaped parts 8 joined by a part 9, Fig. 5. The retorts are set in a regenerative gas furnace, and a considerable depth of zinc is maintained for instance as shown in Fig. 4. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 161,156.
