Abstract
164,167. Murray, J. March 16, 1920. Coating-machines. - Bookbinding-machines are fitted with a device which ensures that the back projecting edges shall receive an adequate amount of adhesive. The gumming-roller B is formed with a longitudinal groove B', and is supplied with gum by rollers C, D, the former of which has a projection C<1> adapted to enter the groove B<1>. The book A is reciprocated vertically and a bar B<1> carrying the roller B is oscillated about a shaft B<3> in unison, so that the shoulders A<2> receive an extra supply of gum from the trough B<1>. The bar B<2> is operated by means of links B<4>, B<5>, a toothed sector B<7>, and a reciprocating rack B'. The rollers B, C, D are actuated by helical gearing driven by wheels on the shaft B<3>.
