Abstract

163,161. Cotman, F. J. March 1, 1920. Board games; roulette apparatus.-Relates to apparatus for playing board games of the type in which receptacles are provided in the board for counters &c. and consists in the provision of rotatable rectangular blocks of square crosssection arranged beneath the receptacles and bearing numerals, colours, &c. which may be viewed through perforations in the receptacles. The invention also consists in the provision of frictional pads for rotating the blocks. Fig. 1 shows an apparatus for playing a game of draughts and comprising a perforated board having blocks D, the markings upon which may be viewed through the perforations C. The blocks are secured to wires J which slide within slots formed in the sides of the board. Before the commencement of a game, the blocks are promiscuously rotated and brought to rest either by hand or by the frictional pads, the markings seen upon the blocks indicating the positions in which the men are to be placed. The frictional pads may consist of rectangular pieces of hardwood having strips of velvet for rotating the blocks when the pad is reciprocated. A glass plate may be placed upon the board or between the perforations and the blocks, thus supporting the counters, and the receptacles may be formed of partitions. A modified form of apparatus for playing a game of chance comprises a frame M, Fig. 5, having a circular board with pockets P for containing counters R and small cubes N 'bearing numerals. In this case, the blocks are rotated by means of a circular frictional pad and the board may be fixed or adapted to rotate with the blocks. Means may be provided for covering the blocks during their rotation. In another arrangement, the board is of rectangular shape and is provided with receptacles for containing counters, and numbered cubes which are rotated beneath apertures formed in the board.
