Abstract

157,714. Gerdes, A. F. April 29, 1918, [Convention date]. Gun cartridges; projectiles.- Relates to ammunition of the kind in which the propellent explosive charge 3 is compressed in a cavity in the projectile 1 or is inserted in that cavity in the form of compressed discs or of a compressed cylinder, and consists in putting the primer 5 in a recess in the bottom of the propellent charge or of an explosive plug 4 on that charge and sealing the primer by a disc 6 of explosive material. The plug 4 is perforated for the transmission of the flash. The propellent charge when compressed before insertion is made with longitudinal holes and grooves, and when compressed in the bullet has layers 3<a>, 3b, 3<c> of increasing density.
