1537572 Packaging MIRA-PAK Inc 9 Jan 1976 [19 Sept 1975] 00776/76 Heading B8C Apparatus for forming a carton from a folded box blank having closable flaps at the ends thereof comprises means for supplying a plurality of folded blanks; rotatable cam means for engaging and opening the box blanks; means for depositing a filled bag in the opened box blank; and means for closing and sealing the flaps thereof to form a sealed carton containing said bag. The blanks B are stacked in a vibrating hopper 30 from which the bottom blanks are removed individually using a pair of rotating horizontal discs which separate the lowest blank from the next lowest blank, and a feed roller which moves the lowermost blank out from under the stack (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown); the blanks then being moved into an upright position and moved progressively forward by engagement of their edges by the threads of rotating transport screws (68) (Fig. 8, not shown). The edges of the folded blank are then engaged by rotating cam means 24, (various forms of which are shown in Figs. 5-9, not shown), which open the blank to form an open ended carton B<SP>1</SP> which is then positioned beneath a bag forming and filling apparatus 132. The apparatus 132 may include means for sealing together the longitudinal edges of a continuous roll of sheet material to form a tube, and means for filling the tube, for forming transverse seals thereacross using sealing jaws 146 and for separating the filled bags P thus formed, a bag P being placed in each opened and open ended carton B<SP>1</SP>. The carton is then moved into a horizontal position and passed to station 28 in which it is mounted on a horizontally rotatable carrier (Figs. 12 and 14, not shown) which is mounted on a belt conveyer 202 for passage past various pivotable and stationary members which serve to close the flaps, and glue applicators, &c., for sealing the carton.
