1536401 Back packs E E F RALPH and B B ONSLOW 24 Oct 1975 [31 Oct 1974 6 Dec 1974] 47342/74 and 52784/74 Heading A4G [Also in Division El] A back pack has frame members pivotally connected thereto which are movable between collapsed positions whereat they are folded into overlapping abutment against one surface of the back pack and extended positions whereat they extend away from the pack at angles to said surface of up to 180 degrees. The pack may be a rigid or flexiblewalled box-like structure of sheet-metal, wood, e.g. laminated wood, or plastics, and may be moulded. As shown the pack, Fig. 1, has a frame 4 of metal bars or tube with a canvas covering 6. Straps 10 and a closure flap 8 are also provided. The straps may be adjustable and may be augmented or replaced by handles. Frame members, e.g. 24, 26, are pivoted one to each end of the pack 2 or to a metal frame attached thereto. In Fig. 3 the members 24, 26 and a frame are covered by a canvas panel 28 which acts as a bed when the members 24, 26 are pivoted away from the pack. Further members 30, 32 are also pivoted to the frame and when in the positions shown serve to support a waterproof cover or insect netting so as to form a tent. The pivotable members may be held at selected angles relative to the pack by releasable locking means, and are folded flat against the pack, Fig. 1, when not in use.
