Abstract

1527716 Applying woven articles to surfaces JACOB SCHLAEPFER & CO AG 15 Sept 1975 [19 Sept 1974 15 April 1975] 40872/74 and 15444/75 Heading B6G A woven decoration for application to a sheet material comprises:- a woven decorative article, an area of heat-actuatable adhesive applied to or forming part of a first surface of the article and a carrier sheet releasably adhered to a second surface of the article. In use, the first surface is applied to a substrate, e.g. fabric to be decorated, heat and pressure applied to the assembly and the carrier sheet removed. The article may comprise a fabric embroidered with a pattern and optionally including decorative particulate material, the embroidery threads on one surface being thermoplastic and becoming tacky at an elevated temperature, whilst those on the other surface are non-thermoplastic or high melting threads. In the embodiment described with reference to the drawings, glass particles 4a, 4b are applied to stencil 1a, each particle carrying on its base a thermoplastic coating, the particles then being placed in contact with an adhesive coated face of carrier sheet 2 and the stencil removed. A decorative embroidered pattern 8 is applied to thermodegradable rayon fabric 7 having thermoplastic heat fusible polyethylene threads 6, positioned on the substrate 9 to be decorated and overlaid with the carrier and associated glass particles, the application of heat bonding the embroidered pattern and particles to the substrate and degrading the fabric 7, the residue of which is removed with the carrier sheet.
