Abstract

1525872 Laminates H P CARATSCH 23 April 1976 [30 April 1975] 16509/76 Heading B5N In a method of making laminated reinforced plastics, a plurality of webs 2 of sheet material, e.g. glass fabric webs are fed along predetermined paths each defined by a guide roller 3 and a deflection roller 4 into an impregnation bath 5 containing a curable or hardenable resin binder, e.g. an epoxy resin and contacted deflection roller 4, the resin being cured or hardened while calendering the multi-layer web and thereafter subjecting it to a flattening operation by roller pairs 22, the calendering is effected by moving the multi-layer web through a multi-roll calender 10 embodying rollers 11 to 18 such that it is flexed on alternate directions and wrapped tightly about the rollers with its opposite faces in turn contacting successive rollers so that the web is pressed first at one face, then at both faces together and then at the opposite face. The calender housing 19 may be provided with heating means or cooling means as may the rollers 11 to 18, the housing 20 of the flattening means and the rollers 22 thereof. In the embodiment shown, a copper foil 26 is contacted with one surface of the multi-layer web between the rollers 16 and 17, an additional foil being optionally bonded to the other face of the multi-layer web between rollers 15 and 16.
