Abstract

1522670 Sheet-fastening apparatus XEROX CORP 22 Oct 1975 [23 Dec 1974] 43334/75 Heading B8R Sheets are stacked on a platform 24 between adjustable side guides 25 and against front stops 35. When the apparatus is switched on, a main drive motor 64 rotates a shaft 62, which rotates an eject roller 60 and further discharge rollers and also rotates a clutch shaft 93, and a jogger motor 44 oscillates rear stack joggers 37, a further motor actuating similar side joggers. The stack closes a stack sensor switch to energize a control relay through an adjustable time delay mechanism which energizes a clutch to connect the shaft 93 to a shaft carrying a plurality of cams and a crank whereby the stops 35 are lowered, the roller 60 is raised into contact with a discharge roller 70, an anvil 77 is raised and switching heads 18 are lowered to force a staple formed from a wire from a reel 11 through the sheets, the fastened stack 20 then being advanced into a bin 21. The heads 18 actuate a safety switch to de-energize the solenoid and stop the cam shaft after one revolution by means of a brake. For manual operation, a selector switch is opened to disable the stack sensor switch and the time delay mechanism, and a manual switch is closed to energize the solenoid.
