Abstract
1521265 Power plant comprising IC engine and exhaust gas turbine NOEL PENNY TURBINES Ltd 6 Oct 1975 [4 Oct 1974] 43054/74 Headings F1B, F1G and F1Q The invention relates to a power plant comprising an I.C. engine 10 and a gas turbine 15 driven by exhaust gases from the engine, the gases being expanded in the turbine to a pressure below atmospheric. The exhaust gases pass from the exhaust manifold 21 of the engine to the exhaust gas turbine 15 being expanded to a pressure below atmospheric; the gases are then cooled in a cooler 19, passed to a compressor 16 in which the gases are pressurized to atmospheric pressure, and are finally discharged through outlet 20. The compressor 16 is driven by the turbine, excess turbine power being transmitted through gearing 23, 24 to a common output shaft 13. In Fig. 4 the turbine power is again transmitted from shaft 17 through gearing 23, 24 to the common output shaft, the compressor being driven by the I.C. engine through shaft 28, gearing 27, 26 and shaft 25.
