Abstract

1517241 Linkwork TRIANGLE TOOL CO 4 Feb 1976 [4 Feb 1975 8 Dec 1975] 04399/76 Heading F2K [Also in Division B3] A workpiece table 16 in an electro-erosion machine is supported on a frame 11 for movement relative thereto in an orbital path by a cam drive 32 producing simultaneous reciprocating movement in two directions. A motor 34 drives a shaft 42 via a chain 38 and a shaft 44 via bevel gears 46. A cam 56 on shaft 42 engages a drive pin 64 itself engaging a rod 70 supported by a bracket 67 depending from the table 11. A spring column 72 urges the rod against the pin and the pin against the cam. The cam comprises a cylinder 90 having a central axis making an acute angle with the longitudinal axis L of the shaft 42. The shaft 44 carries two similar cams 60 engaging drive pins 74 themselves engaging rods 80 supported by bracket 78. Spring columns 82 act on the rods 80 and a spring mechanism 84 bears on a common bearing for the shafts. Rotation of the shafts causes simultaneous movement in the X and Y directions and thus orbital movement of the table. To allow adjustment of the reciprocating stroke length the drive pins 64, 74 are movable along their respective cams. Pin 64, for instance, is carried by an arm 100 pivotally mounted in a block 104 and pinned to a link 106 driven by a rack and pinion 118, 120. A bell-crank (114), Fig. 3 (not shown), transmits the movement of link 106 to a link 110 pinned to arms 102 carrying pins 74. A dial 124, Fig. 1, indicates the range of adjustment. The chamber 130, formed by frame 11, within which the drive mechanism 32 is housed, is filled with lubricant and sealed. In an alternative embodiment, Figs. 8-11, a workpiece table 216 is held on the side walls 214 of frame 211 by magnets (218), 220. A single drive-shaft 242 carries a pair of cylindrical cams 256, one at each end, and, at the end remote from the drive for the shaft, a plate cam 260. Adjustment of drive pins 264 and a drive ball 274 is via a rack and pinion 314, 316 and shaft 318 and racks and pinions 326, 328 and 330.
