Abstract

1508505 Automatic control systems BROWN BOVERI & CIE AG 19 June 1975 [1 July 1974] 26098/75 Heading G3R A temperature-limiting arrangement for an electric motor is based on the principle of limiting the current in accordance with a simulated rotor temperature. The rotor current is sensed at 2, squared at 3 and integrated at 4 to provide #i<SP>2</SP>dt as an indicator of the heat input to the rotor. A resistive device 5, simulating the heat loss to the surroundings, then converts the #i<SP>2</SP>dt value to a presumed rotor temperature output 58. This is compared at 8 with a set 'safe' temperature 7 and, if the two temperature values become equal, a fixedcurrent determining subsystem 9,10 over-rides the normal (speed) control 11. To correct for variations in ambient temperature, a measured temperature value 64 - from a transducer associated with the motor casing - may modify the action of the simulator 4, 5.
