Abstract

1504365 Matrix displays INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 5 May 1975 [27 June 1974] 18672/75 Heading G5C Sustain pulses applied to a gas discharge display/memory panel have a frequency of 40-80 kHz and a rise time of 1À8 to 2À2 Á sec. such that the pulses terminate at the same time as the ionization current, and the gas deionizes. A Ne-A filled panel with walls 0 01 inch apart is driven by 40-80 kHz pulses having an amplitude of 110-200 V. The method allows the pulse frequency to be increased thereby increasing the operating margin, i.e. the difference between the sustain voltage at which unwritten cells are turned on and the minimum voltage required to sustain discharges.
