1503961 Iminoisoindolinone pigments CIBAGEIGY AG 23 May 1975 [11 June 1974] 22537/75 Heading C4P The invention comprises iminoisoindolinone pigments of the general formula wherein A, and A 2 are phenylene or naphthylene radicals, Y is a bridge member, e.g. -O-, -S-, imino, alkylene, -NHCO-, -NHCONH-, -CH=CH- or -N=N-, n is 1 or 2, X 1 , X 2 , X 3 and X 4 are H or halogen, one of X 1 and X 4 is halogen and not more than one of X 2 and X 3 is halogen and X 3 must not be chlorine if X 1 is H, or wherein X 2 is cyano or a carboxylic acid ester group and X 1 , X 3 and X 4 are H. Preferably n is 1 and A 1 is a 1,4-phenylene radical optionally substituted by halogen, alkyl or alkoxy having 1-4 C atoms. They are prepared by condensing an isoindolinone of the formula wherein V is >C(Y 3 ) 2 or >C=Y 4 where Y 3 is halogen, alkoxy or tertiary amino and Y 4 is an imino or thio group in a molar ratio of 2:1 with a diamine wherein A 1 , A 2 , Y and n are as above preferably in an inert organic solvent with heating. The pigments are used to colour cellulose ethers and esters, polyamides, polyurethanes, polyesters, natural and synthetic resins, e.g. aminoplasts, alkyd resins, phenoplasts, polycarbonates, polyolefines, e.g. polystyrene, p.v.c., polyethylene, polypropylene, p.a.c., and polyacrylic acid esters, rubber, casein, silicone and silicone resins which may be in the form of lacquers, paints or printing inks.
