Abstract

1503623 Pasting batterv plates GATES RUBBER CO 30 Jan 1976 [31 Jan 1975] 03754/76 Heading D1L [Also in Division H1] Thixatropic electrochemically active paste is applied to a continuous grid substrate 34 having interstitial pores by discharging at 10 a ribbon of paste 23 onto a non-hygrascopic web 16, passing the pasted web and grid substrate into the nip of compressing rollers 27 whereby the paste is forced into the grid substrate, the web being stripped from the pasted substrate at 40. The web may be a paper sheet wetted with water at 20. A second web 44 may also be employed to prevent the substrate adhering to the rolls 27 or the lower roll may be internally pressurized with water to prevent adhesion to the substrate. Paste density and thickness may be measured at 32 and the supply of paste controlled accordingly.
