1500116 Mixing in proportion KANSAI PAINT CO Ltd 5 March 1975 [8 March 1974] 9210/75 Heading B1C To ensure that the proportions of solvent and coloured base coating compositions for making up a coating composition mixture of a desired colour, are accurately measured out, an apparatus Fig. 3 comprising a container 33 of constant inner cross-section, a vertically movable probe 12, 14 (whose end 12 may be of a different form than that shown) connected to a pointer 13 is used in conjunction with a card 1, Fig. 1, bearing one or more scales of graduation lines, the spacing between lines 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 being proportional to the volumes of coloured base coating compositions to be measured out in order of decreasing volumes and the spacing between line 2 (the zero line) and line 3 being proportional to the volume of solvent. A further solvent line 3' may be included amongst the other lines. A colour identifying portion (8) Fig. 2 not shown, which may be provided on the reverse side of the card, displays the final product colour and extends to one edge of the card, which edge may be provided by a cut out or an aperture in the card. The pointer 13 is set to each line in turn and the liquid materials added in turn until, each time, the liquid touches the probe end 12. The apparatus base 34 may have adjustable legs 35, 36 and a spirit level 37. The slide 19 supporting the probe and pointer may be moved in groove 21 by a feed screw arrangement, Figs. 4 and 5 not shown, connected to handle 27 by bevel gears. The probe shaft may be adjustable relative to pointer 13 at 15 to 17 to enable further solvent to be added during measuring without altering the proportion of coloured base coating compositions. The card may be used horizontally, provided that the arrangement of feed screw and pointer &c is adapted to this end.
