Abstract

1493283 Electrical connectors DAYCO CORP 29 Aug 1975 [31 Oct 1974] 35778/75 Heading H2E A vacuum cleaner hose assembly comprises an elongate hose, a plurality of electrical conductors 43, 44 extending helically along the hose, each end of each conductor being adjacent a respective end of the hose, there being provided for each conductor end an electrical connector that is disposed lengthwise of the hose and has a knife portion that includes a slot in which is wedged an associated end portion of the corresponding conductor so as to provide a firm mechanical and electrical connection. A hose connection 51, 52 is fixed at each hose end being integral therewith and having the electrical connectors at the corresponding end of the hose embedded therein. As described, connections 51, 52 have a plurality of male and female connectors 47, 48 respectively located therein. Each connector 47, 48 is preferably in one piece having a knife portion 72 of single or double thickness, edges of a slot 74 therein cutting through a sleeve that insulates the conductors. The female connections 48 have a tubular end 66 for receiving a pin whilst the male connections have a substantially closed end (Figs. 10, 11, not shown). As shown, there are two helical conductors 43, 44 and hence, when the hose ends are cut as shown in Fig. 6, each pair of conductors 47, 48 has a conductor that is shorter than the other due to distance 65 between the wires 43, 44. The hose connections 51, 52 are preferably formed at the hose ends by injection moulding (Fig. 15, not shown) and the cutting of the hose ends and the coupling of the conductors and corresponding connections may be accomplished manually or semi-automatically (Figs. 13, 14, not shown).
