Abstract

1488328 Electric connectors AMP Inc 20 May 1976 [30 May 1975] 20796/76 Heading H2E An integrated circuit package 1 is connected to a printed circuit board 2 by a body 5 having two rows of terminals 12, each of which comprises two beams 15, 16 joined by a U-shaped bight, the upper beam having a contact 13 to engage a contact 3 on the package and the lower beam having a contact 14 to engage a contact 4 on the printed circuit board. The lower beam has a U-shaped end 18 which fits into a recess 19 in a side wall of the body, being held by a struck-out tang 20. The upper beam has an end 23 which engages a slot 25 when the package is absent. The terminal may be engaged by a test probe via a hole 22. The terminals may be beryllium copper, and the contacts 13, 14 may be simple dimples or deposits of tin. The body, which is of glass filled with phenylene oxide, is connected to the box 2 by a screw 30 engaging a nut 30. Bosses 31 on the body carry split-head posts 32 which locate and releasably retain the package which is secured by a clamp (not shown).
