1486166 Delivering sheets OCE-VAN DER GRINTEN NV 21 Jan 1975 [21 Jan 1974 (2) 2 April 1974] 2605/75 Heading B8R A sheet sorting apparatus comprises two sorting boxes 11, 12, Fig. 2, on either side of a vacuum space 120, Fig. 4, and each containing a plurality of bins 215, Figs. 3 and 4. Sheets from a copying-machine are introduced at A, and the sheet transport path is defined by belts 121 passing round rollers 111, 112, 113, 114. The path extends upwards between the box 11 and a wall 101, then to an inverter 260, and down between the box 12 and a wall 102. Each bin carries at its outer end a roller 231 and is movable by means of a cam disc on a shaft 250 to an inner position wherein a deflector 223 carried by the bin projects into the sheet path. The shaft 250 carries a plurality of cam discs, adjacent discs being staggered by 15 degrees. The deflectors in the box 11 project downwardly and an operative deflector guides a sheet into the bin below, while those in the box 12 project upwardly and guide a sheet into the bin carrying the operative deflector. The bins are provided with slots 222 in which vertical rods 280 can be moved according to the length of the sheets. Sheets to be delivered to the box 12 are deposited on a plate 261 so as to be inverted. In one sorting method, all copies of one original are delivered to one bin, copies of the next original into the next bin, and so on. In another method, the copies of a first original are delivered into successive bins, and the copies of the next original into the same successive bins, and so on, to form collated stacks. After all copies of a set of originals have been delivered by either of the above methods, the next bin to those used may be used as the first bin for copies of following originals. The bins are selected by control of the shaft 250 according to a programme. Sheets entering bins are sensed by photoelectric detectors 291, 294.
