Abstract

1486018 Numbering or dating apparatus NORWOOD MARKING & EQUIPMENT CO Inc 10 Oct 1974 [7 Dec 1973] 43876/74 Headings B6C and B6D A marking device, e.g. for numbering or dating, has type faces arranged around a rotatable member 56, Fig. 7, either on a type band or formed on the surface of the member 56. The member 56 has projections 78, and there is provided a reciprocable member 85 carrying two cam surfaces 103, 105 which coact with the projections so that the rotatable member 56 is rotated in the same direction regardless of the direction of reciprocation of the member 85. In another embodiment (Figs. 13-19, not shown), the reciprocable member does not slide longitudinally, but pivots. The device may be incorporated in a marking device as shown in Fig. 1 wherein an article on a conveyer contacts roller 20 which pulls assembly 12 along guides 19. Switch 22 is triggered by member 23 to actuate hydraulic cylinder 25 to move the marking head towards the article, after it has been inked by roller 21. At the end of its movement, can surface 28 rides on roller 30 to lift roller 20 out of the path of the article and allow return of the carriage under the action of a spring.
