Abstract

1485658 Sealing liquid crystal cells SIEMENS AG 27 Nov 1975 [10 Feb 1975] 48729/75 Heading C1M [Also in Division G2] A liquid crystal cell is sealed with a glass solder supplied in the form of one or more fibres. The fibres may be retained on the bottom plate by protuberances made of crystallizable glass or by the raised lips of craters formed by laser bombardment. The fibres may have a core of hard glass or metal (e.g. Au) and melting of the solder by I.R. radiation may be aided by including an I.R. radiation absorbing material (e.g. CuO) in the glass formulation.
