1478606 Titanium carbonitride base alloy INST KHIM URAL NAUCH TSENTRA AKAD NAUK SSSR and VSESOJUZNOE PROIZVODSTVENNOE NAUCH-TEKHNICHES OBIEDIN TVERDYKH SPLAVOV I TUGOPLAVKIKH METALLOV "SOJUZTVERDOSPLAV" 30 Jan 1976 03732/76 Heading C7A A hard titanium carbonitride based alloy of composition:- Ni 9À5 to 49 wt per cent Mo 2À5 to 20À5 wt per cent Titanium carbonitride TiC x N y balance wherein the carbonitride has the following atomic proportions of components x = 0À44 to 0À55 atoms y = 0À41 to 0À55 atoms Ti = 1 atom and wherein the proportion of uncombined carbon in the carbonitride is not more than 0À6 wt per cent. The carbonitride may further comprise 0À01 to 3À5 wt per cent oxygen and have the formula TiC x N y O z where y represents 0À003 to 0À14 atoms and x + y + z = 1. The alloy may be prepared by comminuting a charge of Ni, Mo and Ti carbonitride, admixing with synthetic rubber, drying, granulating, moulding sintering in a vacuum hatch or continuous furnace at 1500‹C for 40 minutes at 5 x 10<SP>-1</SP> to 10<SP>-1</SP> mm. Hg. The sintered product may be used as a cutting tool.
