Abstract

1477505 Engine starter drive ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 19 July 1974 [21 July 1973] 32056/74 Heading F1K An engine starter drive includes a sleeve 10 splined on an electric motor drive-shaft 6 and surrounded by a driver 16 to drive the starter pinion 20 axially, screw threads 17 on a flange 18 of the driver engaging corresponding threads 11 on the sleeve 10, and at least one flyweight 24 pivoted at 25 on the flange 18 and spring-biased inwardly to engage a groove 29 in sleeve 10 to lock together the sleeve and driver after relative axial movement therebetween to engage pinion 20 with flywheel rim 34, a resilient ring 12 cushioning the relative axial movement between sleeve and driver as the flyweight locks them together. When the engine starts, the increased speed throws the flyweights 24 radially outwards, and driver 16 screws back along sleeve 10. A plastics cover 30 on driver 16 acts with a cover plate 32 to form a brake.
