1474020 Scaffolding joints KWIKFORM Ltd 9 May 1974 [9 May 1973] 22112/73 Addition to 1386238 Heading F2M A horizontal elongate scaffolding member 12 is provided at one or each end with a dependent spigot 14 adapted to be inserted in a socket on an upright (not shown), and with a wedge 20 guided adjacent the spigot for retaining the spigot in the socket by engaging an inclined face 15a, 16a of the spigot and an interior face of the socket, the end of the member 12 being formed with a pair of vertically-spaced portions having longitudinal slots 17 within which the spigot is welded, the wedge being vertically slidably received within the slots between their closed inner ends and the spigot, which latter is of channel-section with its mouth directed towards and partly receiving the wedge, part of the web 15 of the channel at the upper end of the spigot forming part 15a of the wedge engaging face, a further part of the channel web being adapted to engage the upright, and a further part 16a of the wedge engaging face being formed by a bearing member 16 between the channel sides near the lower end of the spigot. The face 15a is provided by an inwardly recessed part of the web, and the member 16 may comprise a block welded in place, or inwardly bent integral flanges. The wedge may be retained in its raised inoperative position by engaging a projection 20c thereof in the corner between the member 12 and the spigot, and resting the wedge against the inner end of the upper slot, beyond which its centre of gravity lies.
