Blast apparatus and draught inducers.-A locomotive blast-pipe is formed with an annular and a central aperture for the jet. the latter of which may be completely closed. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2, two " valves " b are pivoted at c, c to the blast pipe a, and are shaped so as to form a central orifice f and an annular orifice g for the blast. They may be adjusted in position in order to vary the orifices f, g by the lever d, having slots in which pins e, attached to the valves, engage: in the extreme position, the orifice f is closed. In a modification, the valves b are both mounted on a common pivot, the means for actuating them being also modified. The pipe a is corrugated as shown in Fig. 2. Figs. 12 and 14 show a construction in which the two orifices are formed by conical segments r rotatably mounted in conical segments p attached to the blast-pipe.
