Abstract
1470272 Riveting BOEING CO 20 March 1975 [21 March 1974] 11673/75 Heading B3U [Also in Divisions H2 and F2] A terminal comprises a shank 63 with a head 65 at one end and an expander 105, and a sleeve 61 mounted about the shank and surrounding the expander, the sleeve comprising a radially expandable cylindrical portion 66 and a collar 67, the cylindrical portion lying adjacent the head and the collar being remote therefrom. Fig. 6 shows a terminal prior and subsequent to installation in an aperture in a coated 44, 45 conductive sheet 45, e.g. an earthing strip. The cylindrical portion 66 has two different internal diameters 108, 109 and an inwardly curved end tip 111, while the expander 105 has a splined surface and is spaced from the head 65 by an undercut 103 which receives the tip 111. Installation is effected by gripping a breakaway portion 81 of the shank with a tool (91), Fig. 4 (not shown), and drawing the shank upwards as seen in Fig. 6 causing the expander to squeeze the narrower diameter 109 against the aperture and the head to roll the wider diameter 108 into a collar 99 against the coated surface 44, the breakaway portion 81 separating at an undercut 83 to leave a screw-threaded terminal stub 69. Fig. 8 (not shown) indicates a terminal installed in a blind aperture. The sleeve may be of tin-coated brass or coated aluminium.
