Abstract
1468975 Slitting and scoring apparatus RENGO CO Ltd 23 July 1974 [21 Sept 1973] 32534/74 Heading B4B [Also in Division B6] A slitting and scoring apparatus for operating on a continuously fed web to make, e.g. corrugated cardboard blanks comprises a rotary shear 1 for cutting the web transversely and located upstream of a pair of slitting and scoring units 5, 50, a guide plate 2 located downstream of the rotary shear and arranged to be moved so as to direct the web on to either an upper guide plate 3 associated with the slitting and scoring unit 5 or on to a lower guide plate 4 associated with the slitting and scoring unit 50. The web W is fed from a corrugating machine 10 to the rotary shear 1 which includes a cutting roll 12 having thereon a straight or helical blade 122, Fig. 2, the roll being rotatably mounted in arms 13 pivotably mounted on a frame member 11. The arms are connected to penumatic cylinders 19 so that the cutting roll can be brought into or out of engagement with a resiliently-covered anvil roll 14. The rolls 12, 14 are rotated by an electric motor 17 via gears 16 and 151-154. The cutting roll 12 is normally in a raised position such that the web is able to pass over a guide plate 2 which may be pivoted by means of a ram 25 in order to direct the web on to one or other of fixed guide plates 3, 4, Fig. 1. The guide plate 3 directs the web to one or other of co-operating pairs of slitter-score rolls 522, Fig; 3, of the slitter-scorer unit 5, each pair of rolls being provided with slitting blades 5221, 5231, and scoring blades 5222, 5232. The pairs of rolls are rotably mounted in bearing plates 521 slidably mounted in frames 51. The respective plates may be raised or lowered by means of hydraulic or pneumatic rams 526 in order to bring one or other of the pairs of slitting and scoring rolls into the operative position in alignment with the guide plate 3. The pairs of rolls are rotated by means of an electric motor 527 via gears 524, 525. A second slitter and scorer unit 50 is mounted adjacent the first unit and is provided with identical parts, the second unit being inverted so as to operate on the web when it is fed over the guide plate 4. The two units 5 and 50 are mounted on a carriage 6 which may be moved transversely to the direction of travel of the web by means of an electric motor 65 via a screw-and-nut arrangement 61, 63, 64. A guide plate 7 is located downstream of the slitter-scorer units 5, 50 and is adapted to be pivoted by a ram 73 in order to direct the web, coming from either of the guide plates 3 or 4, into a cut-off machine 9 which cuts the web into the required length of blank. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 5, three pairs of slitterscorer rolls 841a, 842a are rotatably mounted in frame plates 81 secured to a shaft 82 to form a unit. The frame plates are rotated in order to bring a selected pair of rolls into the operative position by means of an electric motor 852 via a worm-and-wheel device 853, 851. When in the operative position, the rolls are themselves rotated by means of a motor 861 via gears (842a, 841a, 862) Fig. 6 (not shown). The slitterscorer unit may be moved transversely of the web by means of a threaded unit (873) Fig. 6 engaging with a screwed rod (872) secured to the shaft (842) via a coupling (871), the nut being rotated by an electric motor (875). Web guide plates 88 are provided on the slitterscorer unit 8. A second slitter-scorer unit 80 having identical parts as the unit 8 is provided for use with the guide plate 40 as in the previous embodiment.
