146,754. Cockburn, D., MacNicoll, D., and Cockburns, Ltd. Sept. 24, 1919. Automatic gear; stop-gear.-A weight or spring- controlled emergency valve 1 is held open by fluid pressure beneath a piston 6, the rod of which actuates the valve lever 3 through a connecting- rod and an arm 4. The cylinder 7 is connected by a pipe 8 to the forced-lubrication or other oil supply &c., and the liquid passes by a passage 15, a valve 14 and an orifice 16 to the lower side of the piston, while the upper side is connected to an overflow pipe 9. A by-pass 11 between the ends of the cylinder is controlled by a valve 13 carried by a piston 12. When the pressure fails, the valve 13 falls and puts the two ends of the cylinder into communication. The supply of fluid to the cylinder 7 may also be controlled by hand or by the governor.
