Abstract
1461969 Electronic watches HUGHES AIRCRAFT CO 10 Dec 1974 [10 Dec 1973] 53448/74 Heading G3T In an electronic watch having a digital display device, e.g. of liquid crystal or l.e.d. type, energized via an integrated circuit device, the two devices are arranged on a common base substrate and are interconnected via leads from pads adjacent one edge only of each device. Other connections e.g. to electric cells (54, 56) Fig. 4 (not shown) or to pushbuttons 100, 102, 104 may run from the other edges of the devices. As shown, base substrate 26 carries a display substrate 22 and an I.C. substrate 27 with circuit chips 28, 30. Leads 67 run between pads along adjacent edges of the substrates, or alternatively a plug and socket connector may be used. A transparent window (72) covers the display and an hermetically sealed cover 76 encloses the I.C. substrate. The display and circuit devices may be on opposite sides of the base substrate Figs. 5, 6 (not shown) and the display module 24 may be mounted directly on the base substrate 26 Fig. 7 (not shown). A lamp or l.e.d.106 is energized by push-button 100 to allow a liquid crystal display to be read in the dark. The display then normally shows hours and minutes but button 102 produces a date display and buttons 100 and 102 pressed together produce a seconds display. Button 104 is for setting.
