Abstract

1458960 Hydroxylammonium salts INVENTA AG FUR FORSCHUNG UND PATENTVERWERTUNG 14 Nov 1975 [15 Nov 1974] 46978/75 Heading C1A [Also in Division B1] Hydroxylammonium salts are made by hydrogenating NO in an acid medium containing a catalyst made by mixing a suspension of an acid resistant catalyst support material in an aqueous solution of a platinum compound with hydrazine hydrate in an amount of at least 1À1 mols per mol of platinum compound at a temperature of 0-100‹ C. The concentration of the catalyst in the reaction mixture is typically 2-20 g./l. The catalyst is suitably made by mixing the suspension of support in platinum compound solution and hydrazine hydrate at 50-90‹ C. for at least 15 minutes. The platinum compound is preferably a Pt (IV) compound, e.g. PtCl 4 or H 2 PtCl 6 . Activated carbon or graphite powder are preferably used as the support material. The catalyst containing mixture is preferably used directly for the catalytic hydrogenation but the catalyst may be separated and if desired washed before use. H 2 SO 4 is the preferred acid medium and concentrations of 8N are preferred. The platinum is preferably used in an amount corresponding to 0À5-5 g. Pt/100 g. of support.
