Abstract

1456846 Data transmission; error detection DEFENCE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 29 July 1974 [30 July 1973] 36202/73 Heading H4P A multiplexing system has a plurality of error detecting block codes of common length of different error correcting capabilities, those having greatest correction capability being selected inversely according to reducing number of live data ports. A data packer 1 receives signals from source 2 which are directed on to lines 4 by channel request signals 3. Encoder and multiplexer 5 is substantially similar to that disclosed in Specification 1,389,551, output from which is assembled at 8 together with " domestic " and synchronizing signals from which it is passed through a distributer 10 to a transmitter (not shown). Selection of appropriate error correcting mode is determined by a line 6 which controls input to a counter (31) (see Fig. 3, not shown) output from which is decoded at (33, 34) and provides an output on one of lines 9 which select the appropriate error correcting mode. The " domestic " signals transmitted indicates which mode is operative and this is decoded by a counter (41) at a receiver (see Fig. 4, not shown) which controls a mode determination arrangement (43). Counter 41 acts as a serial majority voting circuit. A data packer is described with reference to Fig. 2 (not shown). In the arrangement it is preferred that the encoded data signals and sync. signals should be distributed before transmission, i.e. order of information bits should be changed so that effects of burst interference will be scattered over several blocks.
