Abstract

The glass fibres are prepared by applying an aqueous size. The size contains a film-former comprising an aqueous polyurethane ionomer dispersion and a coupling agent (adhesive agent, adhesifier) comprising an epoxyalkylalkoxysilane. However, the coupling agent used can also be one of the following combinations: a) epoxyalkyl-alkoxysilane and aminoalkyl-alkoxysilane or b) epoxyalkyl-alkoxysilane and low molecular weight, aliphatic, primary or secondary monoamine, or c) aminoalkyl-alkoxysilane and low molecular weight monoepoxide. The reinforced glass fibres have particularly good mechanical properties.
