1455769 Treating IC engine charges J J PALOTSEE 31 Oct 1974 47107/74 Heading F1B Means for improving the fuel air mixture of an I.C. engine comprises a tubular housing arranged with its axis vertical, a driven shaft arranged on this axis carrying a first set of radially extending fingers in axially and circumferentially arranged positions and a second set of fingers which interdigitate with the first set, carried by the housing which also increases in diameter in the direction of flow. An air-fuel mixture from a carburetter C passes through a conduit 12, usually of rectangular shape to means 30 for breaking up and vaporizing any fuel drops in the mix. The conduit 12, which may contain fingers 16 punched out of a base sheet 18 or loosely packed steel-wool, agitates the fuel-air mix before it passes to the means 30 which further breaks up and vapourizes the fuel. The means 30 comprises a tubular housing 32 arranged with its axis vertical which supports a shaft 34 driven by a motor 64. A fan 40 is secured to the lower end of the shaft 34 and supplies the air-fuel mixture to the engine manifold 42. The shaft 34 carries radial fingers 44 at axially and circumferential spaced portions thereof. The fingers 44 are interleaved with a second set of fingers 46 secured to the housing 32 at axially and circumferential spaced positions. Housing 32 has a removable sleeve 48 which carries the fingers 46 and two shoulders 52, 54 increase the diameter of the housing in the downward direction. The length of the fingers 44, 46 is such that they terminate adjacent the sleeve 48 or shaft 34 respectively so that they intercept any fuel drops falling off the shoulders 52, 54.
