Heads.-A wood or iron cask, barrel, &c. of the kind used for containing tar, oils, fats, liquids, semi-liquids, powder, &c. has the heads secured by means of a long bolt b, which traverses the cask from end to end and is secured by lock-nuts to transverse braces d secured to flanges e of circular metal rims a of V- section taking over the edges of the cask. The heads c are secured to the bolt by lock-nuts, and the arrangement is such that either end may be removed without disturbing the other.
