Abstract

1444559 Clamps F A DALEY 28 May 1974 [27 Feb 1973 30 July 1973] 9630/73 and 36160/73 Heading E2B A fastening device comprises a deformable sleeve 3 and a sleeve deforming member 4 insertable into and through an aperture the member 4 having a screw thread for threaded engagement with a second member 5 for drawing the sleeve deforming member 4 into the sleeve 3 so that the sleeve bulges around the deforming member 4 so as to anchor it by encapsulation. As shown in Fig. 1, the threaded member 5 extends through the aperture 2 in the bottom of a terra cotta pot and carries the frusto conical threaded member 4 which is screwed by a nut 10 into the sleeve and onto a washer 9 and frusto conical ferrule 8. The sleeve 3 is deformed by and around the member 4 and by the ferrule 8 outside the aperture. If the aperture is deep two aligned sleeves are used separated by two opposing separate ferrules or by two joined ferrules. The member 46, Fig. 5, may have a groove into which the end of the sleeve may be deformed. The sleeve may be split longitudinally and may have also two longitudinal slots and may have a split spring clip at one end for engaging in the groove. The sleeve 3 and the member 4 may be made of metal or plastic. The device may be used to support a ceiling or on the floor, and the aperture may have a blind end. For Figures see next column
