Abstract
1439440 Internal combustion engines A P PEDRICK 27 Nov 1974 51503/74 Heading F1B In a reciprocating-piston internal-combustion engine, fuel is fed into the cylinder in an encapsulated form, the capsule being punctured by a member 15 carried by the piston or the pressure in the cylinder. The capsules are preferably fed to the cylinder by a rotor 20 driven from camshafts 16, 18 by chain 22 at an appropriate speed ratio to the engine crank-shaft. Seals 23 are provided for the rotor and parts 24 have a high heat retentivity for pre-heating the fuel capsules. An electrically heated element may be provided for initiating combustion. The fuel may be compressed hydrogen gas, gasoline, diesel oil, finely powdered coal dust or an explosive chemical containing its own combustory oxygen, in which case the air inlet valve 16' can be dispensed with.
