1437543 Blow-moulding; composite parison E I VALYI 1 Aug 1973 [2 Aug 1972] 36622/73 Heading B5A Composite-plastics articles are blow-moulded by placing a preformed composite sleeve on a blow core, forming an outer layer therearound in a parison mould to form a composite parison and blow-moulding, the sleeves being transferred to the core whilst incompletely connected to a web of a plurality of layers of material. The sleeve may be thermoformed e.g. by vacuum from the web which may comprise a plurality of layers bonded together by the thermoforming only at the thermoformed areas or previously only at the areas to be thermoformed and/or along the edges of the layers by adhesive or heat sealing. A continuous web may be severed, e.g. by means (22, Fig. 1, not shown) into sections having a plurality of sleeves therein which are partially severed by means (30, Fig. 2, not shown) and fed, e.g. on transfer plate (40, Fig. 4, not shown) to blow-moulding apparatus Fig. 5 where sleeves 20 are transferred by reciprocable head 57 to blow-mould 54 and thence on to blow-core 52 for the injection of an outer layer thereon in parison mould 51. The composite parison thus formed is then expanded in blow-mould 54 and the product formed removed therefrom by head 57 to a discharge station. Head 57 is vertically reciprocable in the direction of arrow B on guide rods 59 by cylinder 60 and is connected to a source of vacuum and/or air under pressure to pick up and release the sleeve 20 and, later, the product. Core 52 is vertically reciprocable, has ducts 55 for supply of air for blow-moulding and may be heatable, e.g. by fluid ducts or electrically. The sleeve may comprise a composite of a layer of acrylonitrile and a layer of polyolefine. The unbonded portions of the web from which the sleeves are formed may be separated and recycled.
