Abstract

1436892 Automatic control of lifts WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORP 11 May 1973 [24 May 1972] 22486/73 Heading G3N [ Also in Divisions G 1 and H 1] The acceleration of a D.C. motor is determined by measuring the rate of change of armature current, using a transformer 60 Fig. 1 whose core 68 is wound with a first winding 62 carrying the armature current of the motor 12, a second winding 64 carrying a fixed current produced by the armature voltage, and a third winding 66 acting as a pick-up winding. The circuit of the second winding 64 is such that the ripple flux it produces in core 68 is equal and opposite to that produced by winding 62. Hence the voltage VST induced in the third winding 66 is due to the change in back emf of the armature 14 and is therefore proportional to motor acceleration, and substantially free of ripple. Constructional details of transformer 60 are described, wherein winding 62 is effectively less than one turn. The acceleration signal may alternatively be derived by differentiating the output from a hall plate element. The motor 12 is used in an elevator system, the speed command signal V SP being supplied by a program 50 and compared with the actual speed signal VT derived from a tachogenerator 52 to produce an error signal VE to which the acceleration signal VST is added to provide an anti-bunting facility.
