Abstract

1436123 Fluidized bed dryers; fluidized bed distributer plates YAN TONGEREN UK Ltd 6 July 1973 [20 July 1972] 34050/72 Headings F4B and F4G [Also in Division B1] A distribution plate for high temperature fluidized bed treatment apparatus (e.g. drying or calcining) comprises two skins 10, 11 defining with a peripheral wall an enclosed space, tubular inserts 12 extending sealingly through the skins, the coefficient of thermal expansion of the material forming the skin 10 supporting the bed being greater than that of the material of the other skin. In use, heated fluidizing gases at a temperature of 650‹ C. are fed to a plenum chamber on the underside of the plate and pass through nozzles 3 and nozzle caps 4 to effect fluidization. Fluidizing gases consist of combustion products mixed with dilution air which has first passed through the hollow distribution plate and out through conduit (8, Fig. 1, not shown). The skins 10, 11 are joined by the tubular inserts 12 being welded thereto and tubular nozzle stems 14 are pinned or dowelled to the inserts 12 in aligned holes 15 in the stems 14 and inserts 12. At the upper end each stem 14 has four rectangular cut-outs 16 which provide the gas discharge passages. Protection plates 17 are provided on the upper face of skin 10 and contact the outer periphery of the stem 14 to reduce leakage of fluidizing medium. A channel section member 18, is externally welded at 19, 20 to the upper and lower skins 10, 11 and internally welded at 21 at its junction with skin 10. The bottom flange 22 of member 18, a support flange 23 of the plenum chamber casing and the portion of the skin 11 sandwiched therebetween are provided with registering holes 24 for the fitting of sixty clamping bolts. Instead of, or additionally to the pins in holes 15 a bent lug arrangement may be provided. The distribution plate may be rectangular, square or circular in cross-section and the fluidizing chamber is of frusto-conical form. The skins may be of stainless steel.
