Abstract

1435718 Coated TiO 2 KRONDS TITANGmbH 2 May 1973 [13 May 1972] 20744/73 Heading C1N Uncoated TiO 2 pigment is post-treated by adding an aqueous solution of a Zn salt to an alkaline slurry of the pigment, thereby precipitating ZnO 2 hydrate as a part coating on the pigment, and when the ZrO 2 hydrate is at least partially precipitated and without otherwise altering the pH, adding to the slurry an aqueous solution of an Al salt Πone or more other post-treatment salt whereby Al 2 O 3 hydrate Πother compounds or hydrated oxides are precipitated, and then recovering the coated pigment at about neutral pH followed by washing, drying and grinding the other post-treatment salts may be Al, Ti and Zn sulphates or chlorides, Na aluminate and Na silicate. Acid or alkali is added if necessary, to adjust the pH after the addition of the Al Πother salts.
