Abstract

143,493. Philadelphia Storage Battery Co., (Assignees of Holland, W. E., and Skinner, J. M.). May 17, 1919, [Convention date]. Separators consisting of a sheet of rubber or other insulating material are provided with narrow slots the total area of which is at least 40 per cent of the area of the separator. The thickness of the separator may be one sixty-fourth of an inch. Slots in adjacent rows may be staggered as shown in Fig. 1, and alternate slots in each row may be half the length of the remaining slots, the distance between adjacent rows being equal to about the width of a slot. Portions 9 of each separator may be left unperforated. Fig. 3 (Cancelled) shows a form in which the slots are inclined and the separator is provided with ribs 22. The slots may also be angular in form as shown in Fig. 5, and they may be rounded at the ends. The separators are used in a battery in conjunction with wood separators having ribs on one face.
