Abstract

1434521 Composite polyester films LA CELLOPHANE 7 June 1974 [8 June 1973] 25432/74 Addition to 1397653 Headings B5B and B5N In the construction of carriers for magnetic recording tapes comprising biaxially stretched composite polyester films the faces of which are formed from two polyesters, films formed from which have different slip properties after being stretched, in accordance with Specification 1,397,653, said polyesters are such that the smoother face of the composite film has a coefficient of roughness below 0À5 and the coefficient of friction between the two faces is less than 0À7. Films are made by coextrusion and may comprise two or more layers. The polyesters are prepared by catalytic ester interchange, the film having the smoother face being prepared from a polymer in which the catalyst is soluble therein and the rougher face from a polymer in which the catalyst is insoluble therein. Preferred polymer is polyethylene glycol terephthalate.
