1434243 Spinning composite, crimped yarns TOYO BOSEKI KK 2 May 1973 20768/73 Headings D1F and D1W A method of producing a composite yarn comprises opening a crimped synthetic thermoplastic multifilament yarn substantially non- twisted and having a torque in one direction, combining it with a staple fibre material while in the opened state, and twisting the combined yarn in a direction to cancel the torque of the crimped yarn (i.e. in the same direction as the torque direction). The composite yarn may be wound into a package and/or twist-set. The composite yarn with or without twist-setting may be knitted into a knitted structure Which is thereafter heat-treated in a relaxed state. The crimped yarn may be obtained by twisting- heat setting-untwisting, 'false twisting or modified false-twisting processes. The opening of the crimped yarn is preferably achieved by voltage application but may be achieved by stretching and relaxing the yarn. Apparatus for carrying out the method preferably comprises a pair of electrodes, e.g. needle-type electrode 1 and funnel-type electrode 2, means e.g. voltage source 3, for applying a voltage across the electrodes, means for feeding a staple fibre material e.g. drafting rollers 5, and means for combining and twisting the crimped yarn A and staple fibre material B, e.g. ring spinning device 6. The twist of the composite yarn preferably has a twist constant between 45 and 110 on the metric system. The crimped yarn A preferably comprises poylester, nylon, polyacrylic or polypropylene filaments. The staple fibre material B e.g. a roving or sliver, comprises wool, cotton, flax, polyacrylic, polynosic, acetate, nylon, polyester, polyvinyl or polypropylene fibres or mixtures thereof. Knitted structures formed of the composite yarn exhibit substantially no skew tendency.
