Abstract
1432567 Battery charging systems NV TOOLS Ltd 12 July 1973 [25 April 1972] 19211/72 Heading H2H A circuit for monitoring the charging current supplied to a main battery (not shown) comprises an internal battery 24 and an alarm 25 which is intermittently energized by the internal battery in the event of a mains supply failure, no output from the main battery charger or disconnection of the main battery. The internal battery which consists of six nickel cadmium cells is charged from a power supply 22 via a constant current transistor circuit 23. The charging current supplied to the main battery flows through a diode 26 and switches on transistors in a detector circuit 21 thereby energizing a relay coil 30 and disconnecting multivibrators 28, 29 from the battery 24. A driver circuit 27 therefore does not operate the alarm but in the event of failure of the main battery charging current the battery 24 is connected to the multivibrators, the higher frequency one of which, 28, supplies three mark pulses to the driver circuit during each space of the multivibrator 29 to sound the alarm. A link 31 enables testing of the alarm.
