1430991 Twistlocks HOLTITE Ltd 29 May 1974 [4 June 1973] 26507/73 Heading E2B A twistlock comprises a body 11 having an upper surface, an assembly or a guide block 21 and a locking member 32 which has a shaft 31 rotatable in the guide block and a head 33 lying above the guide block, the assembly being movable relative to the body to an operative position in which the guide block projects above the upper surface of the body and forms a spigot for engagement in an aperture in a container. A member 35 is screw-threadedly engaged with one of the assembly and the body and is arranged to permit, without screw-threaded actuation of the member, the assembly to be moved relative to the body from the operative position towards a retracted position in which the head 33 of the locking member does not project above the upper surface of the body but is capable, when the assembly is in its operative position, of being screw-threadedly actuated into an abutting engagement with and to bear against the other of the body and the assembly to draw the head towards the body. As shown, in the operative condition, the head 23 of the block 21 abuts recesses 17 in side plates 15, 16 of the body, the locking member 32, which is retained by a detent in selected angular relationship with the block, being rotated to a locking position by a handle 36 whereafter the head 33 is drawn downwardly into engagement with the corner casting of a container by rotation of the nut 35. The latter is then secured against rotation by a pawl 37 on a foldable part of the handle, which is engaged in one of a number of slots 38 in the nut; alternatively, the pawl is replaced by a pad of friction material.
