Abstract

1427784 Device for use with a liquid transfer appliance LABOR MUSZERIPARI MUVEK 14 Sept 1973 43202/73 Heading G1B A device for supporting and controlling the rotary movements of liquid transfer appliances for use in chemical analysis, each said appliance being of the type having an elongated stem carrying a capillary cage for holding a predetermined quantity of the liquid, comprises a support body I for simultaneously supporting a plurality of the stems 5, a first member 4 on the body for engaging the ends of the stems remote from the capillary cages, a second member 2 on the body spaced from the first member for providing fulcrum-like supports for the stems part way along their lengths at a predetermined spacing transversely of their lengths whereby each stem is permitted to move pivotally about its support, and a third member 3 on the body spaced from the second member so that the second member is nearer to the first member than to the third member, which has guides for the ends of the stems carrying the capillary cages such that, in use, the pivotal movement of the stems changes the transverse spacing of the stems and the capillary cages can be brought closer together or further apart as required. The support body may be a base-plate, each member being a flange secured perpendicularly thereto, there being a plurality of bores 8 in the second flange for pivotally supporting the stems, and a plurality of slots 7 formed in the third member so as to diverge in a fan-like manner outwardly from the base-plate to constitute the means for guiding the pivotal movement of the stems. Preferably the members are mutually parallel, the device is a one-piece unitary member and abutment rings 6 are associated with the device on the stems of the appliances adjacent to the third member.
